Kate
Hello everyone! I told you I would do a short post on this painting. I am naturally a very shy person, so putting myself out there as an artist really is not a whole lot of fun for me to do. I was bemoaning this the other night when I was talking to my best friend. I was whining about if I put myself out there nobody is going to like me, everyone thinks I'm weird. He then encouraged me saying I have so many friends already, and I just get to get used to keep meeting new people even if I feel uncomfortable.
Okay, back to this painting. When I was starting my new portrait painting portfolio last year, I needed to find children to be models for my portfolio. A young woman (who is now a friend!) reached out to me at church and offered to have her and her daughter pose for me. She was really nice. When her daughter was struggling (which is part of being a two year old) she had the patience a mother needs. As we talked, she would say things like "concupiscence", "oh my stars", and "vocation" which made me smile! As our friendship has grown over the past year, I learned that her daughter was adopted. This friend of mine continues to point me to Jesus and to finding contentment and beauty in our vocations.
This painting will now go in this friend's home, and I cannot wait for her to have it. Even though I was whining about putting myself out there earlier this week, it ended up being okay in the end. I made a new friend and met her daughter and got to paint for them, which was exciting. When I think of venturing to meet new people, I need to think of this friend who was so good to me and so caring. Maybe in the future I can be more like her as well.
If you like this painting and would like a commissioned painting of your own child or family member, my contact information is below. In the meantime, we will talk soon and God bless you and keep you!
Love always,
Kelly
