There are so many sweet songs we sing to children to teach them the faith as they grow up.  A few years ago I had the opportunity and blessing to serve in the Dominican Republic to paint a picture for the mission school.  I had been painting pictures of Jesus with children for a while, and realized I could paint pictures of not only historical children, but contemporary children.  After that experience I looked for some help and guidance and found some mentoring to become a children's portrait painter.

In my above painting of the little girl amongst the purple flowers, I enjoyed painting her lace dress and the purple foliage.  Lavender colors and flowers are among my favorite to use as an artist.  She is in a beautiful garden on a spring day, with lots of green leaves and freshly laid mulch under her bare feet.  I love spring days like this where I can walk barefoot in the grass and smell the beautiful flowers.

This was the painting I did while serving in the Dominican Republic, and it was truly good practice for what I am doing now.  It is funny how life throws different things at you to change you and to change the direction you are going in.  

In the meantime, Mother's day, Easter, and all sorts of exciting holidays are right around the corner!  Portraits make wonderful gifts for moms everywhere.  The spring flowers will soon be in bloom as well as warmer weather which are excellent for portrait photography, and my preference is to always take those photos outside.
