Gentle Mary Laid Her Child
oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches
A beautiful Wednesday to you all, I do hope you are doing well. Goal-setting and goal-acheiving is not the easiest process but I am working on a new portfolio to be released this year. It has been a year since Covid began, and I have been using the extra time to work hard on my artwork. I have had to mature a lot as a painter and as a teacher with this extra time, which is a blessing. I still grieve for many who have lost loved ones and work opportunities in the midst of the pandemic.
Last year I made the commitment to take portrait painting more seriously. And completed nine portrait paintings of people (one of them included 3 faces in it). This year, I have a goal of ten portrait paintings ( one of them was this one) which shall be the Christmas Card for 2021. I am still thinking about which bible verse to put inside of the card. If you have any suggestions, I would like to hear them!
This piece in particular shows Mary holding baby Jesus in a garden. The garden reminds us of the beauty of creation. Baby Jesus is smiling at a sheep, this sheep is a reminder of the Agnus Dei or that Christ is our Good Shepherd who provides for what we need.
I still have many more portraits and paintings to come and share with you this year. Thank you for taking this journey with me.
Blessings,
Kelly
